What your watch says about you.
In a world where the time glows from every screen, choosing to wear a wristwatch might seem unnecessary. But it’s precisely that choice that reveals something meaningful and timeless about a person.
And now, science backs it up.
A fascinating study by researchers at the University of Glasgow, College of Science & Engineering found that people who wear watches score significantly higher in conscientiousness and emotional stability than those who don’t. Watch wearers were also more punctual—arriving nearly three minutes earlier to appointments on average (Hodinkee, 2020).
This might not surprise you if you’ve ever met a passionate collector or someone who carefully selects their timepiece each day. Watches, especially handcrafted ones, often reflect intention, discipline, and emotional grounding.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting hundreds of collectors at fine art festivals over the years. Collectors often make appointments with me to pick up a specific watch or have their battery(s) changed during a festival and I'm always surprised when they text me to say they'll be late or, they arrive exactly when they said.
When you wear a watch, you’re already part of a growing group of intentional humans. You don’t check your phone every time you need to know the hour. You carry it with you. You wear it proudly. And if that watch happens to reflect the colors of the sea, the shimmer of moonlight on shell, or delightfully plays in the light every time you turn your wrist, it may just say even more about you. It’s a mirror and window into your character.
The right watch doesn’t just tell time, it tells the world who you are.
