I went to the Corvallis Fall Festival the last weekend in September looking forward to one of my favorite shows of the year and came home with the unexpected honor of winning Best in Show!
What makes this award especially meaningful to me is that the Fall Festival is an art festival. My watches were being considered alongside the work of incredibly talented artists across many different mediums. To have a handcrafted watch recognized in that setting, not simply for how it keeps time, but for the artistry that goes into creating it, means more to me than I can easily put into words.
I’ve always believed a watch can be so much more than something that tells time. Each dial I make begins as individual pieces of shell, mother of pearl, wood, metal and other beautiful materials that are cut, shaped and inlaid by hand to create wearable art. Then that artwork becomes a watch, something meant to travel through life with you, and perhaps someday passed along.
Since I started Celeste Watch Company, bringing art and watchmaking together has always been at the heart of what I do, and having that recognized means so much to me.
I’m incredibly grateful to the Corvallis Fall Festival for this honor, and to all of you who have followed my work, worn my watches, stopped by my booth, shared your stories with me, and encouraged me along the way.
This is one I’ll remember for a very long time.
