In Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures, the Honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle) is considered a sacred and revered creature. It is believed to represent a navigator or guardian spirit that guides us safely through life's experiences and journeys.
Honu can live up to 100 years and dive to depths of 1500 feet.
Although endangered, thanks to long term collaboration between the state of Hawaiʻi, federal agencies like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and dedicated local volunteers, the Honu population has been increasing over the past two decades.
